In the physics bough of the knowledge tree condensed matter physics is a less well known branch than that of particle physics, astrophysics or cosmology. Yet condensed matter physicists study the everyday matter all around us and how it behaves. Just like tribologists things go a lot more smoothly when the expertise of condensed matter physicists is applied to the materials used in our cyberphysical world.

In his excellent “Ask A Spaceman” podcast Paul Sutter explains a Rydberg Polaron as like an atom … but more so. It is essentially an atom inside another atom in a bath of very cold atoms – a Bose-Einstein Condensate that behaves as single unified whole. So just a normal atom, but better! Now, Alltheus loves BECs so we could not resist tying the concepts together.
