Astronomers describe stars by spectral type, temperature and luminosity. Our Sol is a G (Yellow spectrum), 2 (on a 0-9 hottest to coolest temperature scale) and V (for luminosity) yellow dwarf star.
An apsis is the farthest or nearest point in the orbit of a planetary body about its primary body. Every January Earth is at perihelion - the nearest point to our sun as Earth traces out its elliptical orbit. (As an interesting aside our orbit is eccentric. The Moon alters Earth’s orbit such that it changes, roughly every 100,000 years, from almost circular to far more elliptical).
In 2022 perihelion is on 4th January when the Earth will be 147,105,052 km (91,406,813 mi) from the Sun at 0152 US Eastern Standard Time (0652 GMT).
We hope to move back from the abyss of making Earth’s climate inhospitable to humans from this apsis forth! Or the Earth may just tip towards a point that clears out its human abscess.
