Design Backstory

We survived the 4 3 21 countdown with no ill effects and we can continue to wear a T-Shirt like this everyday in 2021,

Initially inspiration was from the wonderfully self-titled “mathemactivist and craftamatician” Twitter: @Ayliean highlighting the palindromic date 12 3, 21. The design builds on the 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 sequence showing that mathematics is everywhere, EVERYDAY in 2021 specifically at 19 sec after 5:18pm. Maybe time to feed the Instagram monster:-) @alltheusonlbd.

Sequences and patterns are crucially important in several mathematical fields. Music too incorporates sequences and patterns in rhythms, melodies, harmonics, and sublime symphonies. (as an aside it has been said that history doesn’t repeat but it rhymes so the argument goes that the more we look back the further forward we can see).

A book by Dr Anita Collins discusses the importance of music in brain plasticity and neuroscience as well as its increasingly evidence-based applicability in education science as we use functional MRI & PET scanning – again fields making intense use of mathematics to pull out patterns of information from supposedly formless data.
