Design Backstory

The Danish word Hygge captures the concept of finding comfort in, and cherishing, the little things that make life enjoyable.

Underlying our universe in which we fortunately live is a small set of constants and these constants seem finely tuned for the building blocks and environments that life requires. For instance if the coupling constant, the electron’s charge or the cosmological constant were slightly different we wouldn’t be around.

We still don’t understand these fortuitous settings in the Universe’s control room and we are still trying to uncover what makes up 95% of the Universe’s mass-energy budget but Florian Niedermann and Martin S. Sloth have an interesting idea involving New Early Dark Energy (NEDE) undergoing a phase transition in the early universe that might at least help us resolve the Hubble Tension if not helping us better understand the dark energy piece of the puzzle.
